Calm Your Inner Critic – Parts Work, Somatic Regulation & Reframing Exercises
We all carry an inner critic – that voice that questions, judges, or holds us back. In this experiential workshop, you’ll learn how to soften its grip and cultivate a kinder, more supportive inner dialogue.
Drawing on parts work, you’ll explore the protective role your inner critic plays and begin to meet it with curiosity rather than resistance. Through somatic regulation practices, you’ll discover tools to calm the nervous system and create space between the critic’s voice and your deeper self. Gentle reframing exercises will then help you shift perspective, opening new pathways for confidence, creativity, and self-compassion.
This workshop is for anyone who feels weighed down by self-criticism or perfectionism, and is ready to find more ease, balance, and inner support. No prior experience is required - just a willingness to explore and meet yourself with openness.
Creativity in Motion: A Somatic Journey to Transform Anxiety into Expression
Saturday 8th November 2025 | 12.30–2.30pm
Riverside Wellbeing, Whaley Bridge
With Dr. Sally Eccleston, Registered Psychologist, Somatic Therapist and Yoga Teacher, and Tess Gee, a local illustrator
About the Workshop
This two-hour creative and somatic workshop offers space to move from anxiety into presence through embodied movement and mindful art-making.
By combining gentle physical awareness with creative expression, the session supports emotional release, nervous system regulation, and a renewed sense of calm.
You don’t need any previous experience in art or movement. All you need is comfortable clothing, curiosity, and a willingness to explore how the body and creativity can help you reconnect with ease and inner steadiness.
What to Expect
Arrival and Grounding
We begin by slowing down and bringing awareness to the body. Gentle breathing and simple movements help release physical tension and signal safety to the nervous system. This time allows you to settle, arrive fully in the present moment, and prepare for creative exploration.
Movement and Expression
Through guided yet intuitive movement, with easy to follow movements, you’ll be invited to explore how emotion and energy move through the body. As you reconnect with rhythm and flow, you’ll be invited to express your experience through colour, texture, and shape—alongside words if you wish. Creative expression provides a way to process feelings and experiences that can be hard to verbalize, supporting regulation and self-awareness.
Transformation and Connection
From movement and expression, we shift into openness and connection. You’ll explore what it feels like to move with more ease and create from a place of trust and joy. Together we’ll contribute to a shared mandala - a collective symbol of wholeness and transformation.
Mandalas represent wholeness, the universe, and the interconnectedness of all things. They are often used as tools for reflection and healing. Together we’ll create one as a group, and each participant will take home a small piece to remember the experience and the sense of connection it inspired.
Integration and Reflection
We close with a period of stillness and gentle rest, allowing body and mind to integrate the experience. You’ll leave feeling grounded, lighter, and more connected to yourself - with simple, embodied ways to return to calm and presence in daily life.
Tea and snacks will also be offered as part of this workshop.
What You’ll Gain
This workshop offers a safe, supportive space to pause and reconnect with yourself. Through movement, breath, and creative expression, you’ll learn evidence-informed practices that help reduce tension, increase self-awareness, and support emotional regulation.
You’ll gain simple, body-based tools for grounding and calming the nervous system, as well as ways to approach anxiety and stress with curiosity rather than resistance.
By the end of the session, you’ll likely feel more centred, open, and connected to your body’s natural capacity for balance, creativity, and resilience.
Your Hosts
Sally
Sally is a highly trained, registered HCPC Psychologist and Senior Yoga Teacher with over eight years of experience and professional training. She is skilled in a range of therapeutic approaches, with a special interest in integrating the body within psychological therapy. Yoga was introduced to her as a student in 2011, and after completing her Doctorate in Psychology, she undertook her initial yoga teacher training in 2016. Sally believes that yoga and movement are powerful tools for change — helping strengthen the mind–body connection and supporting awareness of the barriers to wellbeing, including trauma and mental health challenges.
Tess
Tess is a self-taught illustrator who has always found presence and peace through drawing. With a love of patterns, the female form, and the natural world, she creates artwork, cards, and window illustrations for local businesses. Her creative practice centres around mindfulness, beauty, and connection - inviting others to find stillness and joy through simple acts of making.
Step away from the noise of daily life and gift yourself 90 minutes on a Sunday evening devoted to deep rest and renewal. This workshop combines the profoundly restful practices of restorative yoga, the guided journey of yoga nidra, and gentle somatic unwinding to help you soften tension, calm your nervous system, and reconnect with a sense of inner ease.
Through supported postures, mindful breath, and guided relaxation, you’ll be invited to release layers of physical, mental, and emotional fatigue. Somatic unwinding offers space to gently listen to your body’s natural rhythms, while yoga nidra opens the doorway into a deeply restorative state of consciousness often likened to “yogic sleep.”
Whether you’re feeling depleted, stressed, or simply in need of a reset, this immersive practice will leave you grounded, nourished, and replenished. No prior experience is needed - just come as you are and allow yourself to be held in stillness and rest.

Join other like minded individuals for a celebration of Winter Solstice, a time of deep rest. This is a magical time of year at the height of darkness before we begin to welcome the light back in.
We can use the energy of Winter Solstice as a reminder to honour both the light and the dark, and to nourish the depths of you. Enjoy some time set aside to rest and replenish so that you can enter the festive break as a rested rather than exhausted being! It is hibernation time in Nature and it is a wonderful opportunity for us to harvest what we’ve sown and developed over the past year, and then reflect and refocus. As we honour winter we honour our yin and slowness before spring starts to emerge. It’s also a great time to plant our own seeds for changes we want to manifest in our lives.
This time is so very needed right now to create a sense of clarity and peace for yourself - you will be surrounded by love, positivity and practices to help you to feel alive and remember what's really important.
Held on the edge of the Peak District, in a cosy and inviting studio space, with 10 people maximum. Not only improve and dedicate time to your mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing but also meet likeminded people in the community.
✨ This retreat is a chance to pause at the threshold of the year, release what weighs heavy, and invite in clarity, renewal, and light. You’ll leave nourished, grounded, and resourced for the season ahead.
What are others saying?
“I was fortunate to secure a place on Sally’s Spring Equinox Day Retreat in March 2024, and the experience was truly sublime. I’ve done a couple of other retreat events with Sally but you never know what she has in store for you! From the moment of arriving, I instantly felt at peace; the pretty location and light airy space, with gorgeous scents and music filling the room, accompanied by sounds of the river flowing by outside; every detail created a perfect idyll of relaxation and comfort. The day was arranged to include variety, a lot of warmth and joy, at times challenging in an enriching way, like a personal journey of self-rediscovery and release from unwanted strains and negativity. Our break for a delicious wholesome lunch added to the nourishing benefits of the day. The experience is wholly rejuvenating and beautiful in so many ways, a treat for the soul and senses, Sally’s retreat events are by far one of my most favourite days of the year. Thank you so much Sally for making this possible, you are a treasure I am so privileged to know!”
“I really enjoyed Sallys spring reset retreat, the setting ( wellness centre in Whaley Bridge) is perfect, the river runs alongside & the room is bright & warm. Sallys approach to yoga is really refreshing & professional, the day was very well planned & the music was in keeping with the atmosphere. The food was delicious & fresh. The day flew by, I think all of us went alone, such a lovely group of people of different ages & abilities, everyone was catered for and given alternatives. I left the day feeling calm, controlled and very relaxed. Thank you Sally , hopefully see you soon.”
“I’ve never attended a wellness retreat before and Sally made me and everyone else feel really, really at ease the whole day. There was so much variety in the activities throughout the day making it exciting. Leading up to the day I had been feeling really tense physically and mentally, as well as a bit bored with things in everyday life. By the end I felt powerful, calm and ready for the next big changes in my life, with a much less busy mind. Plus the social aspect of meeting other lovely women was really nourishing after all the disconnection during the lockdowns. If you’re interested in any aspect of a retreat with Sally just go along and enjoy it- she makes it so easy!”
““Spending a day with Sally and meeting brilliant new women on the new moon retreat was everything I needed to help banish the stresses of the last year. It was in the most incredible setting and I came away feeling refreshed and renewed and floated in to my week. The day just flew by and had so many treats in store - aside from the delicious food - that made it great value for money””
“I went to this last Sunday and it was amazing. The session was invigorating and relaxing for both body and mind and Sally is just lovely. It really set me up for the week ahead.
I know that it might seem expensive vs a gym class or membership but they’re not comparable. I absolutely can’t wait for the next one.”
“There are so many wonderful things I would love to say about the retreats I have been on with Sally but as this is a review and not a book, I will keep it short!
I have been on 2 retreats now, an all-day one and a 4-hour afternoon one. Going in I felt a little tired and disconnected with myself, the way the retreats are structured ensures you float out feeling completely the opposite, I felt invigorated, sure of myself and knew what I needed to do to regain some of that connection .
I loved the cocoa ceremony at the beginning, and this is something I have brought into my day-to-day life, I loved shake the dust yoga and found allowing myself to move in whatever way I wanted entirely profound! I now have mat sessions in which I just move, however I like, I feel free and at ease with the world again!
The food on both of the retreats was excellent, everything was plant based, I was inspired to bring a little more plant based into my life! The truffles! Oh my gosh the truffles!
The goody bags were an amazing touch, a nice little addition to my home practice, allowing me to bring a little relaxation home with me!
All in all I loved every minute of these retreats, they were what I never knew I needed in my life! Oh and of course there is Sally! A wonderful, serene, judgement free, joyous woman!”
